Grafting of Epidermal Sheets for Repigmentation in Vitiligo Dermatologists are trying their best to deal with new ways for the treatment of Vitiligo. For this purpose, many surgical techniques are experimented such as skin or melanocytes transplantation. Now a day a method is introduced in a research published in J W Dermatology for Vitiligo, “Grafting of Epidermal Sheets for Repigmentation”. It has been also observed that stable lesions cause more repigmentation. For this, the researchers take 0.1 mm of epidermal sheet splices from buttock with Zimmer air dermatome. To depigment it they protected these grafts to the superficial derma braded skin. Then they grafted 19 people with Vitiligo and 1 with piebalds in this manner. They secured these sheet splices to the host area with silicone web and enclosed them for one week with gauze soaked in salt. After that the grafted areas of patients were exposed to sunlight. The successful results of this research shown that in 4-8 months, 5-100% repigmentation is acquired out of 64% of the grafting sites.
Similarly 18 % of grafting sites achieved 50-70% of repigmentation. So, grafting of epidermal sheets for repigmentation is a new ray of hope for vitiligo patients.
