Tattooing is a process of changing the skin color by injecting artificial pigment into it. The pigment is as stable that it will last for years before fading.

If someone has a very long standing, stable and small vitiligo patch, and it is of cosmetic importance for that purpose, he might choose the option of tattooing it.

Tattoos do not get affected by the process of vitiligo. Tattooing has in fact been used to camouflage the vitiligo spots.

Tattoos may however fade independently in some people. Also the tattoo expert should be good enough to match the skin color of yours with the tattoo. Tattoos are a good choice for lips where no other treatments will work. Tattoos have a risk of infections if proper procedures are not adopted, and the process is always painful.

Many tattoos experts do not recommend it for vitiligo. One of them is the gypsy; according to him vitiligo skin may not be able to hold the pigment and there can be other complication associated with it. According to him tattooing should only be done for healthy skin.

But despite of all these bad things that can go with a tattoo on vitiligo patch, often vitiligo patients go for it as a last resort.
